World Balloon Convention 2016. Why you should go.

It’s so worth it.

In approximately 5 months time I will make one of the most important business trips of my life. I will travel for 18 hours, take 3 flights and land in the final destination of New Orleans, meet people who I have befriended on Face Book, but name to faces, attend 2 of the best parties ever, mingle with my peers and get drunk on the atmosphere that is World Balloon Convention 2016.

There is a very true saying, “you only get out what you put in” and this was very much the case in 2014 when I attended WBC in Denver. I threw myself into every possible situation that I could, I help Team GB headed by Mike and Sara Harris with one of the most amazing sculptures I have ever worked on and loved every minute of it, I attended every class I could, I partied like a rock star (Ozzy actually) at the opening night party, I made numerous new friends (I think), I watched balloon teams from all over the globe compete in dazzling competitions demonstrating there talents, twisters who worked their magic with 26oQs. I was given the honour of designing and implementing the decor for the QBN meeting which is still something I am immensely proud of and could not of done it without the help of Team GB and other delegates.

I helped out with the build up one of the classes for Dominic Cassidy and Keith Stirman, a great hands on experience.

I put 100% into my WBC experience and got 110% out, one of the best ever educational experiences I have ever had. My emotions were all over the place, I laughed, I cried with happiness, I danced on tables and the memories will never fade.

Team GB with the finished sculpture. Well done Mike & Sara Harris and thank you Matt Russell from Team Australia who stood in to help when Sara was taken to hospital with a bad right hand injury

So whats so special for me about WBC 2016

WBC 2016 is a very special event for me as for the first time ever I will be a WBC instructor taking on the mammoth task of demonstrating to you all about the all new Q Boom.

I have 2 classes on the Thursday and 2 classes on the Saturday. I will also be in attendance when not teaching in the Welcome Centre where I hope to answer all your questions about exploding balloons and the Q Boom.

For those of you who have never experienced my teaching methods then you are in for a real treat, I have a very unique way of engaging with an audience and really do believed that hands on demonstrating is the best way to learn, so if you are keen to learn about exploding balloons and Q Boom then visit my class, you will not be dissapointed.

So how will WBC 2016 benefit you.

To get the most out of any event you have to throw yourself in. If you are on your own then why not ask to join a team and help with the build on the sculptures, it’s a full hands on experience that will teach you new techniques, you will meet new people and become life long friend. Get involved with the build up of the decor for the Opening Night Party or the Gala Ball. Both parties have been designed by renown decorators from all over the world and your experience will be price less but most of all enjoy yourself and  revel in the atmosphere that is Word Balloon Convention…..and if you are lucky you may get dragged onto the dance floor by me for a quick boogie, but not for too long, Im a very popular person you know.

See you all in New Orleans,

Laters,

Matt
